Film Opening Ideas: Planning
Some Thoughts on Planning:
How I Want my Film Opening to Be:
I have decided to divide my film opening into three sections between which I can cross-cut.Section 1: Routine and packing/moving:
- Show a small part of the character's daily routine to introduce her and make her more relatable and close to the audience.
- Some ideas for this would be to show her waking up and getting up, and then packing up some things in a box.
- There could be a shot from the window, to begin with, to convey it is a new day and a new chapter in her life, or just start with the alarm beeping.
- There is definitely going to be a shot with the boxes to portray the plotline of her moving house.
- There has to be a shot getting into the car and maybe then the car starting and leaving.
Inspo: After (2019), Twilight (2008) and Battle (2018)
Section 2: Car travel
- Shot from the car window preferably with the sunset and some birds
- This is where the voiceover will be the most prominent
- I could start with this section and then cut back and forward to sections one and three
- Or I could start with section one and then cut to section two and from there cut backwards and forwards to sections one and three
- Shot of the girl looking at the car window
Inspo:
Section 3: Flash Forward
- This is the hardest section to plan
- I want to use it as a cliffhanger and introduce the boy at the same time
- I'm going to link sections two and tree with the voiceover
- I want to show a moment of bonding between the boy and the girl
This structure is going to be the basis for my storyboard and script, now that I have an idea of what I want my film opening to look like.
